Entering last night, the REX had won seven of their last 10 games, but were coming off a doubleheader loss to the Cape Catfish. The REX needed to turn things around against the Danville Dans as the rivals are currently in a fight for second place in the division. Whoever finishes second in the division will likely make the playoffs as the Lafayette Aviators won the first half of the season and currently have a commanding lead in the Wabash River Division.
Danville took an early lead when they hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Fast forward to the top of the fourth and the REX were able to tie it up at three. Designated hitter Nate Wolf was able to cross home plate on a wild pitch. Then, center fielder Tyler Nelson knocked in two on a single. In the top of the fifth, Wolf put Wabash Valley's Own ahead with a solo shot making the score 4-3. The Dans were able to tie it up at four in the bottom of the same inning. The Dans added two more in the bottom of the sixth to take 6-4 lead. In the top of the eighth, Nelson scored on a single by first baseman Connor Hicks to cut the lead to 6-5, but that would be the end of line for the REX. The Dans would walk away with a 6-5 victory.
The REX are back at Bob Warn Field tonight at 5:30 PM EST for a doubleheader against the Dans.
