Aviators ground rising REX

The REX headed to Lafayette, IN last night to try to turn the tide against the Lafayette Aviators. The Aviators have won all but one matchup against the REX this season. Lafayette is at the top of the Wabash River Division and looking to win the second half of the season.

First baseman Nate Wolf helped take the lead early on an RBI single that scored left fielder Alec Atkinson. The REX had a four-run third inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Three of those runs came on a double by Wolf. The other run came when Wolf crossed home plate on on a ground out by catcher Dylan Janke. The Aviators were able to score five over the next two innings to tie up the game.

Wabash Valley's Own took the lead back in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by third baseman Alec Brunson that scored shortstop and Terre Haute native Kaleb Hannahs. Over the next two innings, the Aviators would rally back and take a 10-6 lead. In the top of the ninth, Wolf continued his strong outing with a solo shot over the right field wall to bring the score to 10-7. That would be the last time the REX would score and they would fall to the Aviators again.

The REX are the road on Wednesday to take on the Springfield Sliders at 7:35 PM EST.
