Player Spotlight: Michigan State Pitcher Colten Panaranto Joins REX Baseball

For our second player spotlight we are putting the focus on to a local young man, Colten Panaranto. Panaranto attended Terre Haute North Vigo High School before transferring to Roncalli High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Panaranto is a 6’0”, 210 pound right-handed pitcher. He is currently a freshman at Michigan State University.

Panaranto is the son Chris Panaranto and Krista Nott. His great-grandfather was also a baseball player. His baseball days were spent with the minor league team the Terre Haute Phillies. The Terre Haute Phillies were a Class B team in the Three-I League (Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa) from 1946-1956 based in Terre Haute, IN.

Panaranto had his choice of colleges and chose Michigan State over colleges such as Indiana, Valparaiso, Kentucky, and North Carolina. During his sophomore year at Terre Haute North Vigo High School he won two games and had one save. He also had an amazing ERA of 2.80. During his senior year at Roncalli High School he was able to help his team win the Sectional title. Twice he was named an Underclass High Honorable Mention All-American by Perfect Game. In addition, this fine young pitcher was ranked the number eight overall player in Indiana by Perfect Game. Perfect Game ranked him the number thirteen overall pitcher and the number one third baseman in Indiana. Prep report had Panaranto as the number ten overall pitcher in Indiana and the number sixteen overall player in Indiana. Panaranto is quite the athlete as he also lettered in football while he was in high school.


In Panaranto’s first season at Michigan State University he has appeared in twenty games and has a record of 3-0. He has started one game this season. Through those twenty games he has pitched 39.1 innings. The hurler has struck out thirty-four batters and has an ERA of 5.03 as of May 5, 2019.
