REX lose Dans doubleheader

The REX entered last night on a three-game losing streak and one game back from the Danville Dans for second place in the Wabash River Division. The Dans on the other hand were looking to start their race towards first place with the Lafayette Aviators. With the halfway point of the season looming, the REX needed to win both games of last night’s doubleheader with the Dans to put them back in the race for first place.

The first game of the doubleheader stayed scoreless through the first two innings, but the Dans were finally able to get two across home plate in the third. Danville added one more in the fifth to give them a 3-0 lead. The REX scored one in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Nate Wolf. That would be the end of the scoring for both teams and the Dans would prevail in game one by a score of 3-1.

The second game of the doubleheader started off differently for Wabash Valley’s Own. Alec Atkinson led off and swung at the first pitch he saw. Atkinson sent it over the left field wall to give the REX an early 1-0 lead. Kaleb Hannahs followed up the home run with a double and then Rob Weissheier hit an RBI single that scored Hannahs. The Dans added one in the bottom of the first, but the REX led 2-1. The Dans pitcher bounced back and did not allow another run the entire game. The Dans on the other hand added three more runs and came out of game two with a 4-2 win.

The REX are back home all weekend. Tonight they play the Springfield Sliders at 6:30 PM EST on Trivia Night.
