REX Pull Away Late to Win on the 4th of July

REX Baseball pulled away late to earn a 7-2 win over the Dubois County Bombers on Independence Day.

Felix Polanco got things started early in the 1st, launching a two-run homer to left center that scored Gabe Wright and gave REX a quick 2-0 lead.

Dubois County tied it up in the 6th. Cole Nathan laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Drew DuPont, and moments later, Cordell Coburn singled to left center to bring in Kendric Sorgius, evening the game at 2-2.

REX answered right back in the 7th. Wally Diaz shot an RB|I doubled to left center to retake the lead, 3-2.

In the 8th, REX broke the game open. Nomar Garcia came home on a throwing error by the Dubois catcher, and Delvis Claudio added an infield RBI single to make it 4-3. Diaz capped off the inning with a two-run single through the left side, adding 2 more RBI to his account on the night and to make it 7-2.

Diaz finished the night with 3 RBIs, while Polanco homered and scored twice. REX’s starter, Aaron Moss, held the Bombers to only 2 runs in 6 innings pitched. Logan Medsker and Micah Vessley came out of the pen and both went 3 up 3 down to close out the game.

REX are now 21-11 overall,3-2 in the 2nd half, and 5-2 against Dubois this season.

The Bombers fall to 15-17 overall, 4-2 in the 2nd half
