Team effort powers REX past Champion City

The REX were looking to get a win last night against the Champion City Kings after losing their last two games. The REX needed a win badly as they have been falling back in the Wabash River Division. The Kings on the other hand entered the night at the top of the Ohio River Valley Division with a 15-8 record.

The REX got most of their runs out of the way early with four runs coming in the first inning. Third baseman Kaleb Hannahs scored on a single by designated hitter Kyle Harbison. First baseman Rob Weissheier scored when center fielder Tyler Nelson was walked. Right fielder Jack Leverenz knocked in left fielder Nate Wolf on a fielder’s choice and to end the scoring in the inning, Harbison scored on a single by catcher Dylan Janke.

The REX scored again in the fifth on sac fly by Weissheier that saw Janke cross home plate. The Kings did their best to fight back as they scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth, but they could not rally. The REX would win the game 5-3. Pitcher Brayton Reed earned his first win of the season and Alex Reinoehl earned the save.

The REX are back in action again tonight at Bob Warn Field at 6:30 PM EST to take on the Kings!
