TERRE HAUTE, IN – Wabash Valley Baseball, LLC, the ownership group of REX Baseball, is excited to announce Matthew Chavarria as the next head coach of REX Baseball. As a player, Chavarria won the Prospect League Championship in 2012 with the West Virginia Miners. In 2014, he was a Prospect League All-Star for the REX. He helped lead the University of Southern Indiana to a Division II Championship in 2014 where he was also named the Most Valuable Player. He played professionally in the Frontier League for three years and is now an assistant coach at the University of Southern Indiana.
“I am pleased to announce the hiring of Matthew Chavarria, as the new head coach of REX Baseball. He is a former REX Player who knows the reputation we’ve built in the Wabash Valley. Matt comes with great enthusiasm, professional baseball experience and collegiate coaching experience. We feel he will be a great fit for us,” said General Manager Bruce Rosselli.
Chavarria said of joining REX Baseball, “I would like to thank the Terre Haute REX for presenting me (with) this opportunity and allowing me to come back to be a part of the REX organization! I am so blessed to be thought of in the same conversation as all the great coaches that came before me and helped make this organization one of the best in this league,” he continued, “In the humblest way possible, along with the great support from our fan base and front office, I intend on being a playoff team. There would be nothing more satisfying for our players than to experience winning a Prospect League Championship and bring another championship back to Wabash Valley!”
REX Baseball is excited for Coach Chavarria to lead the way for Wabash Valley’s Own in 2022.
